"You have a weblog?" "Yeah! It's just like being a real journalist but you don't have to worry about things like deadlines or facts!"

Happy Halloween

Ahhh... today is one of those mornings I love. Sitting with some light snow coming down, some excellent Christmas blend coffee, and nothing to do. Last night was crazy. Dave Mah had the greatest costume ever! If anyone didn't see it, man you missed out. I'll put the link up to Carlos's picture gallery soon, but if anyone had friends at the Hose or Lydia's last night, I guarantee you will hear about it. Amazing.

The Plaid Tongued Devils put on a great show again, unfortunately Yasko went home sick.... which was questioned by his Croat buddy, but without Yasko there the Devils lost their biggest fan in Lydia's, and the free tequila that he usually gives. So that showed a bit in their enthusiasm.

The number of pub crawlers is growing, Saturday will kick ass.

Pride fighting tonight, cool.

Pub Crawl

I have been invited on a pub crawl for a women's soccer team for next Saturday. I'm assured there will be many fine looking ladies in attendance. The plan is the Pat, Sutherland, Overdrive, Hose, and back to the Pat. Tickets are $10 bucks. Alfie has already said he's interested, and being that I likes the soccer ladies, I'm interested. Could be a fun time, we'll see.

Sloth

As my high school principal once said, I am a sloth. Well... he said, "you are a sloth" but you get my meaning. I shore didn't finish my craptastic essay last night, now I'll have to do it up at work. I managed to do pretty much anything but work on my essay last night. Well, I did some work on it, but I should have finished it. I is a sloth. I was preoccupied at one point by the irony that the U of S english dept. Requirements for Essays has numerous grammatical errors. Really crap ones too like forgetting to put words in, how can you judge me when your own work is this bad??

Oh well, at least it's Friday. Tonight we may reach maximum pintage!!! Or maybe not, I'm too old for such excesses too often.

10.28.2004

It worked

Hey! It workded today, yesterday I could not get in.

Well GTA: San Andreas came out Tuesday, I picked it up for a whopping $48.00 at Wal-mart. If anyone liked Vice City or GTAIII you should rush out and pick this up. In a word, it's amazing. Where to start... Rick James is a DJ on one of the radio stations, Samuel L. Jackson and Sean Penn are crooked cops that set you up, you can pimp out cars, you can train you guy (CJ - Carl Johnson) to be a better, swimmer, runner, fighter.... this game kicks ass! Not meant for small children, besides the fact that you a gangsta beating crack heads with a baseball bat, there's a whole lotta F bombs being dropped, like regularly. Think of playing a Boyz in the Hood/New Jack City - game. Big time violent, big time language, but still, big time fun. Buy it, do it, do it, do it.

Unfortunately I have that whole paper thing due Friday so Alfie has graciously taken the game off my hands for last night/today. I hope to have it finished up today at work... speaking of which, I best get crackin'.

Chelsea

I have decided to tentatively throw my support behind Chelsea of the english premiership. I have a couple reasons why they get my support and a reason why it is tentative.

Why them?
1. I saw some snippets from the exhibition games they played in North America and I liked their style... at the time that is, see why tentative below .
2. Frankly, I don't know if anyone of my friends is backing them and I like to be different. I'm pretty sure Mike's an Arsenal guy, Brad bleeds Man U blood, Carlos... Real, not sure about a EPL team for him, Patrick is required to back Celtic by Irish law, not sure about Janny.
3. They have an Icelandic striker, gotta be true to my norse roots! word.

Why tentative?
1. They've been playing a godawful boring defensive style. They could be so exciting, if they don't be exciting, my support (for what it's worth) they will not have. They were exciting back in the exhibition when it didn't mean anything.
2. They're currently second. I hate to just up and pick the team that's 2 points out of top spot. I hope Mike will back me as I told him a week or two ago that I liked Chelsea from the exhibition round. By the way, Mike is available for private poker lessons, learn from the king!!
3. They've bought a team. Not my thing, but it appears that's what you do in the EPL if you want to win.

Hmmm... almost makes it like I'm more against cheering them on than for them. What can I say, I'm fickle.

What's the word on the mass Tron outing happening on the weekend? Has everyone got their unitard ready to go?? For the sake of all involved, lets avoid any grape smuggling incidents shall we? I likely will not be joining the Tron clan, sorry lads, I will don some gay apparel, fa la la fa la la lah lah lah, for the night out - provided there are many Tron's and the token bad guy (Alfie) going as well. Ahhh.... maybe Tron will happen anyway. It'd be cool in a really really sad way to have a score of Trons out at one time.

Soccer link

I'm just doing this to avoid working on my essay again. All you soccer fans should check out the link, it's for James Sharman's ramblings on soccer. He's the world sport guy for The Score, I like his ramblings - has some good thoughts. You Celtic fans in particular should check this one out, although he makes a good point for all fans of soccer. All I can say is that I fully agree with him.

My foot is now officially buggered. I limp all day long, hopefully the doc today will say something good, preferably something that doesn't involve the word surgery.

Other than that, I have little to say. My brain is turning to mush having read so much graphic violence in Titus Andronicus and then trying to write something intelligent about it. Click on the title to go to Sharman's words.

Yawn

Well the weekend came and went. I took it pretty easy on Friday and Saturday, just wasn't feeling like heading out. Sunday I moved my desk in finally, big thanks to Jaret for helping me lift that bugger. My Saturday badminton day went oddly well, I finished 3rd or something on the ladder and likely should have been top but my right leg has decided it should be completely wrecked. I'm in the market for a bionic leg if anyone has one kicking around (get it? kicking around). Jaret claims they can rebuild me, they have the technology. Actually there is something pretty seriously wrong with it, I'm going to the doc on Tuesday to make sure it's nothing too bad. It's right on the scar that it's bleeding and I don't know why, seems like there's an infection too. I'm hoping it's just a dissolvable stitch that didn't dissolve and not someones wedding ring that was sewn up in the surgery.

Well guys... it's the 25th, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is out on the 27th... this will be, bar none, the funnest game of the year. For those of you who haven't played Vice City... crawl out from under that rock and play San Andreas. There's too much coolness to even get into. Anyway, I have an essay due the 29th so hopefully I can have that finished by Wednesday. Talk to y'all later.

Essay time

Ahhhh.... must.. start.. essay.. today...

I have an essay due next week in my Shakespeare class. This essay will suck as my prof is a touch on the haughty side and has made his requirements stupid. I've never read this in an essay assignment, "You may use secondary sources if you wish, but you are not required to do so". That part's fine, it's the next sentence that screws it up, "In fact, I would rather you did not". Why? This makes no sense. Isn't your ability to take something from another text and apply it to something else a good thing? Doesn't this make backing up your claims that much more solid? Ahhhh... twit.

Pints were had last night, McGettigans and their excellent Guinness. I also must go there for the fish n' chips, it looked super good yesterday. We hit Lydia's after for cheap beer and nachos, it was good. I have also discovered that I may not be able to play poker on Saturday as my BADMINTON, yes my badminton is going to be interfering with the start time. Some of you may know that I'm a badminton dork... well now all of you know I'm a badminton dork. What can I say, it's fun. So this year I've joined the badminton ladder to hone my mad skillz... no not to find an asian girlfriend, even though Alfred has pointed out many times that I seem to be afflicted with "yellow fever". Anyway, I have a mandatory meeting on Saturday at 12, the same time poker starts. There may be a seeding tournament as well so that will knock it back further. I also have to see if there's any people who want to go doubles but have no partner.

Anyway, Friday's here so I'm hap hap happy!! Now I must start making notes on the gore fest that is Titus Andronicus. It's not nearly as good as the good bloody venegence from my Norse myth, not nearly as much fun. Everyone should check out Grettir's saga... ahhhh.... life was so simple for the old norsk.

Soccer

Becks has been given the lightest of slaps on the wrist for his intentional yellow card and his obligatory boast that he thought of that all by himself. I have to say I'm a little surprised, I thought a fine would come in the least, instead he was just reminded of what his duties as a captain are. Nice.

This brings me to ask any who read this, who should I cheer for? I don't really have a team that I follow in soccer. Oh sure there's a few teams I don't mind, teams that friends are fans of. But one team hasn't really jumped to me. I do like many of the players on Real Madrid, but they keep buying the best available at each position and that kinda goes against what I like in a team. For me, a team has to play an attacking, defense be damned style. I also have a penchant for cheering for the underdogs. I know Patrick will say Celtic, and I will give them a look, Mike will say Arsenal... to be honest, I don't really like Thierry Henry - don't ask me why, sometimes you just don't jump up and down for a particular player because his style or something about him. That's how it is for me with Henry. I do like Rooney and Van Nistlerooy so I might end up being yet another Man U fan.

Anyway, who do you think I should throw my support behind so I can have a look at them and decide how I feel. Hmmmm maybe the wolves....

Huzzah!!

The Red Sox won last night!!

Forgot to be happy about that this morning, I'm not a big baseball fan, and it means that Ben Affleck will be on tv sometime now but I'm sick of those Yankees.

Wussing it up

I wussed it up today and drove my giant car to work/school. My foot that I thought was doing so much better is not and I decided not to limp all the way here.

GAH!!!! More work "fun" just occurred. Some poor student guy is getting screwed by the college something fierce. So once again, it's 7:15am and already shit has happened that has nothing to do with me, nor can I do anything about. I need a raise.... he said as he typed a post for his blog, working so diligently.

Anyway, Mike's b'day yesterday. It was mildly drunk Mike by the time I left, which hasn't been seen in an age. I will now notify all who read this, if anyone buys me a shot of darn near anything, aside from Jagermeiter, be prepared to drink it your ownself. This stems from a shot of 9/10th's 151, 1/10th wild turkey that was inflicted on me by one Mike Winter, aka that bastard Mike. This shot messed me up but good. As most know I'm the cheapest 205lb drunk there is and that 151 fucked me up.

Tonight there is talk of pints with Jan, good stuff there, though I'm not feeling too hot so we'll see. Saturday will be another poker tourney, looking forward to that of course, come one come all as the more players the better.

Funny stuff

Teased

I thought the day was getting better. A guy mailed me about a car, and it all sounded pretty good, until I talked to my mechanic. Turns out he knows this guy and the car is complete crap. Damn. The guy is also a complete moron apparently.... this day has to get better. Wait! It's Mike's b'day today, pints tonight... ahhh something to look forward to. Thursday pints with Jan and Patrick et al. The week is only getting better. And Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas comes out in a week and a half or so. Excellent.

Fecking Morning!!

It's awesome when you've been out of your house for 1 hour and your day is already screwed. Such a day I am having today. First off, my walk to the university was just excellent. Excellent that is if I'm looking to sue the shit out of the city. Their lovely meewasin trial that they've sunk tons of cash into in an effort to encourage people to use it, is the most ice ridden treacherous scrap of land in Saskatoon!! The steps down from the train bridge are an open invitation to a broken something... trust me I thought about it, got a buggered leg now as it is that needs rest and a nice little settlement would help out that student loan. Then if it's not icy, it's covered in a foot of snow. I can understand if they figured it was going to melt quickly, but it's been here since Saturday night!! Morons. I think it's mayor Don Atchison's meek attempt to lower the educated population of Saskatoon. Being that mostly university students and faculty use the east side of the meewasin in the area between the train bridge and the hospital. It's understandable that he'd have some security issues being as he has a grade 8 education. Yes that's right, Saskatoon's mayor dropped out of school in grade 8. His dad gave him a store to run cause he knew what a unbelievable fuck up his kid was... and now he's our mayor. He may have eventually got his ged, but he didn't graduate with his class. My boss went to school with his older brother.

Then I eventually get to work to find the weird ass yoga guy is not pleased because I wasn't here 5 minutes early to give him his precious yoga equipment. For the 1 person that showed up for his class!!

Then... I get into my office area to find that one of the people that worked yesterday afternoon/evening has left a note that's the equivalent to waving a huge ass flag on a 40 foot pole while jumping up and down screaming "I'm stupid! I'm stupid".... this job is giving me grey... no wait, white hairs.

It's just turned 7:30am.... fuck.

Snow day

The happiest day of the year. I'ma make you all hate me now, I actually like snow and winter in general. Actually check that, I like winter until about 2 weeks into January, then it's time to get the fucker over with. Christmas is my favourite time of the year so as soon as the snow starts coming I get happy. It's funny cause I ride a sportbike and have a sports car that I only drive in summer, but I likes the winter, weird.

I have yet to play soccer or hockey, my leg is still swollen like Kobe Bryant's head. I was going to play soccer last night but after the noon hour badminton session (yes badminton, it's fun what can I say) I had what we in the exercise therapy field like to call a "pronounced limp". Now before I get all technical on y'all, between my surgery, my previous heel spur and plantar fasciitis I have the right leg of a 90 year old man. I must talk to Siobhan about the NSAID's, need to get rid of this.

This is a random photo of the bike. I've figured out how to do that now, it's a pain in the ass though so photo's will be few and far between.

The weekend update

Ahhh... well another weekend has blown in and left like so many drunken sailors. Let's see... oh, damn. Almost forgot about the... day, can't think of a witty description for this one. Obsoive. Alfie, Kris and myself went to... Ryly's of all places Friday. Why? You ask. Cause they had their 17th birthday party (ya I don't know why a bar is celebrating their 17th birthday either) and Alfie knows bartender Clay at Ryly's, who gave us free passes for free beer. Free and Beer is good, so we went. Some of you may also know Clay as that guy who gives all the free shooters and ridiculously alcoholic drinks. So we go. We're sitting at a table and I notice that a shooter girl there is one of the most attractive women I have ever seen in Saskatoon, I off handly mention to Alfie that she is gorgeous. Mistake. About 30mins later, said shooter girl comes over with her bottle of amaretto and her bottle of orange juice (it's one of those pour into your mouth deals). So she asks if we want a shot, I smile and say no shaking my head. Alfie! Alfie says, pointing at me, "well he thinks you're gorgeous so I better give him one". Bastard! My face hit the floor. So then, I'm down on my knees in "shooter position", to which Kris noticed that I would do well in prison apparently, beside this absolutely gorgeous girl, looking my best no doubt, and the damn spout on the bottle don't work. So I get a bunch of amaretto poured on my tongue. She apologizes cause her spout is buggered, I say it's fine, just wanting to hide under the table anyway. So she goes away, then she comes back having fixed her spout, and I must go down on my knees AGAIN! By the time it was done my pride was as questionable as my sobriety. You think this is bad for Rhett, it gets worse. Shortly after the shooter girl incident, a... as Alfred calls her, "pre-teen" girl, probably 18 or so... young anyway, comes up to me and says, you all know it's coming, "has anyone told you you look like the singer Nick Lachey!" Gawd! So Alfie hears this and this officially makes Alfred and Kris's nights. Apparently this pre-teen has quite the crush on Nick and really wanted to dance. She kept leaving her boyfriend! to come over to talk. The night continued with Alfred randomly stopping women to ask them if I look like Nick Lachey. And by randomly stopping I mean shouting at them across tables, "Excuse me, you in the black", apparently I do. There is much, much more to tell, ask around when you can.

Saturday was kick ass poker night, too bad Carlos missed this one, I know he'd like it. We will be doing it again some night and that might be better with Jan leaving for Korea soon. Jan of course won, that's why it may be better. Anyway, that's enough for a post.

10.15.2004

Bored so I will update

Well.... put the bike away yesterday. Had a crappy last ride because it was really windy, although there's nothing like ripping along at 150kmph at a 60 degree angle because the wind is pushing you over to get the heart beating.

Had some good poker action last night, I actually ended up making a dollar... ok, 95 cents but close enough. We went to McGettigans for a pint of Guinness afterward. Jan and Patrick were not lying, it is solidly the best pint of guinness in Saskatoon. Sean, Jan, Patrick, Rosey, Siobhan, and Marc were there to partake in the enjoyment, a good time was naturally had. The night dipped a bit when it was revealed that Siobhan may have to be relegated to the minors in the upcoming Patrick/Rosey wedding, we're all pulling for you Siobhan, I'm sure you'll be back to form in time for the big day.

Today is Payday, and Gameday the best day of the week!! I will attempt playing a little on my gimpy leg. I shall try to show restraint and only play a half, but it's entirely likely I'll say, ah it's fine and play through it. Which I shouldn't. Anyway, that occupied some time, back to... work?

Un-Freaking-Believable

Danny Williams will fight Vitali Klitschko for his heavyweight belt on Dec. 11th. Williams hasn't done anything aside from beat an old Mike Tyson. Beating Tyson would have once meant something, by the time Williams did it... let's just say it's more "Aluminum" Mike Tyson than Iron now. So what does this mean? Well by the looks of things right now, it means that V to the K will fight a token tomato can title defense. At the same time, that's what people said about Williams prior to his Tyson fight. The one thing I remember about Williams is that he went in absolutely fearless against Tyson, if he does that with Vitali... who knows. I personally think Tyson is the harder hitter between he and Klitschko, Vitali doesn't hit as hard as it seems he should be able to, doesn't seem to put his whole body in his punches. Don't get me wrong, it's still freakin hard, just not quite Tyson hard. Vitali is taller though, and strong, and he's shown he's got more guts than his little bro. My question is why doesn't Vitali go on a rampage and rid the boxing world of chump champs like Ruiz and Brewster. My only thought is that they're ducking him. Ruiz/Kiltschko would be painfully boring.. wait, Ruiz/anyone is painfully boring. Klitschko/Brewster... that would likely be an ugly beat down, i.e. entertaining.

I watched a new young heavyweight last night, ummm Littleton or something to that effect was his name. Hits really really hard, not a great boxer though. Had no amateur career, unless you consider 7 years in prison an amateur career. Went straight to pros, he didn't look all that bad though. Got knocked down in the 3rd by a hard hitting, better boxer, but he picked himself up and kept attacking until scoring an evil KO in the 7th. Knocks guys out with both hands, he's now 14 - 0 with 14 KO's. I shall keep an eye on him, needs to learn to box better though.

November will be a great month of boxing. We got Mosley/Wright II (Nov. 20), Morales is fighting Barrera who delivered the greatest body shot I've ever seen (Nov. 27). The same night Pacquiao is fighting though and he's always awesome to watch, Tszyu's fighting again (Nov. 6), Byrd/McCline, Ruiz/Golota... which may be the most foul infested bout ever!! I'm actually hoping Golota brings back the 3 punch combo to the junk for this one, actually this card is good, all heavyweights including some that may actually be interesting, Nov. 13th for those interested. Kickass, 4 Saturday's of good fighting in a row, maybe the NHL lock out is good for something.

There is no joy in S town....

Today is a very sad day as I let the plates run out on the bike and it is parked for another winter. Today may be the last time I ride the Fireblade as it may be sold before spring. I'm very saddened by this all. A mournful pint may be had tonight, perhaps some gambling to ease my pain.

Daily blurb

33 workers from a print shop in the states won the big powerball lottery down there. This is the one we hear about from time to time for a ridiculous amount of money, this time it was $215 Million!! Now get this, you'd figure that $215 between 33 would still be a healthy chunk of change. You'd figure wrong. After taxes, the workers will be taking home about $2 million apiece. WTF? you say. That's right, of the $215 million prize, $149 of it is taxes, only $66 million to the winner. Not that I'd complain about $2 mil, but c'mon, who's going to be "okay" with not getting the $215 mil.

Last night was more hot poker action....which makes it sound like some sort of S&M thing, but it's not, it's just y'know... poker. Anyway, the table had Dave "hard luck on the big hands" Mah, Jan "I can't believe I'm playing with such amateur's" Gurzik, Rhett "loses money in a flash" Nelson - that name could also be Rhett "what do I do now Jan?" Nelson, Ray "the lord of the river" Chin, Carlos "wait, wait, wait... strike hard and destroy" Bustos (he did well last night, your welcome Carlos), and Alfred "I have pocket two's" Ng. A good time was had by all, Dave lost a toughie to Carlos, as did Alfred though I'm not sure if it was to Carlos or not. Afterwards wings and pints were had at the Yard to ease the pain of lost money for some (me) and to revel in winnings for most others.

And finally, I talked to Mr. docter/surgeon guy, well I talked to his very attractive receptionist... who remembered my name from 6 weeks ago, yay for me! Watch me do absolutely nothing. Anyway, I found out that I'm on a "gradual" return to sport, not a "6 weeks" return to sport. So I'm not supposed to be playing full out until early-mid November. Souper! Dag nammit leg! I think I need the left one done too... sucks.

I may have an "in" for a job... boy I like quotes today, so hopefully that will pan out.

Weekend

Weekend was... ummmm, pretty ok. Mildly crazy at times, mildly dull at others. Had the Thanksgiving meal with my gran and gramps and parent on Saturday. I was late because I took a lovely young lady for a ride on the bike, which is not as fun as riding alone, but the loveliness makes one forget about not being able to play Valentino Rossi for an afternoon. It was Paturday night afterwards which was.... not as good as it could have been, if you know what I'm sayin'. I'm now officially all about orange dresses... you heard me.

Sunday was spent cleaning the bike, which looked damn good if I do say so. It's really too bad it's going to be sold. Oh I also vegged out playing a pretty darn cool game called Shadow Hearts: Covenant. It's one of them there RPG type games so it may not be for all.

Jaret knows the dirt that went on on the weekend. I won't be publicly declaring said dirt, certainly not on the internet, but suffice to say that the dirt turned out to be a boon to my sanity.

Boxing addition

I heard from Darren about the weight changes. His thought was that likely most of the weight lost would be muscular weight, resulting in a lower power output as compared to before the weight class change. He also figured there would be a loss of capiliarization and mitochondrial function resulting in lower endurance. How does this play a role in a fight that was over in the second round? Well, with loss of endurance you're not going to be able to train as hard prior to the fight, making your early rounds suck ass.

Email scam

I got a Nigerian email scam today on my gmail. Kinda miffed, it's the first crap mail I've got sent to my gmail. I sent it on to the Po-lease. They got my addy from a website I put a want ad on for a car on. Oh well.

Car hountin' continued

Some input SVP on what YOU think I should drive.
Choices:
Jeep YJ or TJ
Jeep Cherokee
Old ass Datsun 510

I would post pics but it baffles me, and I don't think I can from the brutal work computer. I can mail them to you if you're dying to see what an old ass datsun 510 looks like.

Boxing blurb

I think I'm going to start making semi-regular blurbs on the fisticuffs. Today I once again have an opinion on Roy Jones Jr. I was watching TSN's new boxing show and a decent point was brought up. That being, historically fighters have done well moving up in weight classes but when they went back down to fight at their original weight, they've had poor showings. Ray Leonard was the example, and of course, RJJ. Russ Anber seemed to think that it was something to do with the power in their muscles being lost when dropping the weight, I'm going to talk to my buddy Darren who's finishing his PhD in exercise physiology to see if there's any truth to that. Roy Jones also spoke this past weekend, saying he was going to step away from the fight game *cough* concussion *cough* for awhile. Not surprising, Roy ain't worth much right now and his career is in question. He did say that he hasn't been motivated for a fight since Ruiz. This I can believe as against Tarver and Johnson he really didn't seem like he wanted to be there, and that was before they started whoopin his ass. Vic Rauter, who should comment on nothing aside from curling, figured this was foreshadowing that Roy would move up to heavyweight. Not sure about that, could be good and bad. Roy's poor fundamentals would once again be covered by his fantastic speed against the big slow guys. I think Tarver would head up too though, and Bryd could still give Roy fits. Then you have the problem that if he fights a legit (Ruiz sucks) heavyweight, he'd get his head taken off. Lucky for Roy, there basically are no legit heavyweights. Speaking of Tarver, is he going to fight again or what? Tito has decided he wants Hopkins. Hopkins is the only guy to beat him, soundly I might add. Who's to say, Tito is driven coming out of retirement but some say Hopkins was the reason Tito retired in the first place. The rumourmill is crazy with word that Tito has started to get the classic "been hit in the head too much" shakes. I'm sure another fight with the executioner would help that out. Anyway, there's my ramblings, let me know what ya think.

10.04.2004

My views on Roy Jones Jr.

Here is my views on RJJ. Yes, this is what my friend and I felt was worth arguing over, stupid.

It is my belief that RJJ has a technically bad boxing style. This does not mean that I think RJJ to not be a good boxer, far from it as he is one of my favourite fighters of all time. I refuse to rank him all time, not because I don't think he's necessarily better than other guys, but because that sort of listing involves so much conjecture and supposition that it's really not worth it. Then there's also the fact that some fighters just seem to have a guys number, example Antonio Tarver and RJJ, I don't feel that Traver is necessarily a better fighter than RJJ, but he does seem to have his number. Yes they only fought twice and the record was 1 - 1, but Tarver wanted a 3rd and RJJ wanted nothing to do with him.... bad form on RJJ's part, every other great fighter after being stunned with a knockout has been burning to fight that guy again to prove it was luck, except RJJ.

RJJ's style:
RJJ's style has obviously been successful, that doesn't make it good. Likewise it is not necessary for a fighter to have a great style to be great, but it helps. When I say RJJ's style isn't good, I mean in the classical sense. He doesn't fight with his hands up and he puts his back to the ropes far too much for his boxing style to be considered good. However, RJJ is an extremely gifted athlete and with his speed has been able to slip punches and really, never take a straight punch most of his career. So is RJJ's style good for him? Yes and no. RJJ's style is good for young RJJ, old RJJ can't slip punches like he used to and now... he gets knocked out by Glencoffe Johnson. WHO? Exactly. It's too bad to because RJJ still has a hard snap to his punches. If you look at a fighter who does have a good style in the classical sense, Bernard Hopkins is an excellent example. He fights with his hands high in the center of the ring and his chin tucked down into his chest. No one will knock him out with one shot because he's just not vulnerable. The fact he hasn't been beat in 8 years, fights all comers, and is 39 attests to that.

So that's my view, RJJ just doesn't have a fundamentally sound stance. Does this make him bad? No, didn't say that. Do you need a technically great stance? No, there's tons of great fighters who didn't have a technically great stance. If RJJ did have a technically better stance though, he'd still be fighting and quite possibly could still be champ, as it is it appears his career is done , and on a bad note. Oh, in my opinion... and all of this is just my opinion, take it or leave it, a technically good stance is one that any fighter can use and be successful with. RJJ had a good stance of RJJ and that's it. Again, it's not required to be a great fighter, Ali really didn't necessarily have the best stance, but he was Ali.

Wow, what a silly thing to argue about... another good reason to cut down on my alcohol intake, it appears I do stupid things.

Craptastic weekend

Well, the weekend has come and gone and boy did it suck! Friday night was fairly low key, which was fine as I was sleepy and needed a low key night. Saturday... Saturday is where the land of suckiness was reached. In a nutshell, I was again set up with a lovely lady, who is truly an awesome lady if not for the large amount of baggage she feels the need to carry about. So ixnay on that idea. Then I got in a stupid argument with a buddy that may or may not have been liquor fueled. I hate arguing with friends, especially over stupid things that in reality I think we agree on. I will be recounting my views on that topic in a second here. To top the night off I hung out with Yasko after close, which was cool, the level of drunkeness I reached however, was not. This has prompted me to abandon the demon alcohol. I hate wasting beautiful days because I feel like hell on toast, this is what I did Sunday. If you happen to see me have the odd pint, don't jump up and down and cry hypocrit. I'm not saying I will never drink again, but it will be few and far between.
