Boxing blurb
I think I'm going to start making semi-regular blurbs on the fisticuffs. Today I once again have an opinion on Roy Jones Jr. I was watching TSN's new boxing show and a decent point was brought up. That being, historically fighters have done well moving up in weight classes but when they went back down to fight at their original weight, they've had poor showings. Ray Leonard was the example, and of course, RJJ. Russ Anber seemed to think that it was something to do with the power in their muscles being lost when dropping the weight, I'm going to talk to my buddy Darren who's finishing his PhD in exercise physiology to see if there's any truth to that. Roy Jones also spoke this past weekend, saying he was going to step away from the fight game *cough* concussion *cough* for awhile. Not surprising, Roy ain't worth much right now and his career is in question. He did say that he hasn't been motivated for a fight since Ruiz. This I can believe as against Tarver and Johnson he really didn't seem like he wanted to be there, and that was before they started whoopin his ass. Vic Rauter, who should comment on nothing aside from curling, figured this was foreshadowing that Roy would move up to heavyweight. Not sure about that, could be good and bad. Roy's poor fundamentals would once again be covered by his fantastic speed against the big slow guys. I think Tarver would head up too though, and Bryd could still give Roy fits. Then you have the problem that if he fights a legit (Ruiz sucks) heavyweight, he'd get his head taken off. Lucky for Roy, there basically are no legit heavyweights. Speaking of Tarver, is he going to fight again or what? Tito has decided he wants Hopkins. Hopkins is the only guy to beat him, soundly I might add. Who's to say, Tito is driven coming out of retirement but some say Hopkins was the reason Tito retired in the first place. The rumourmill is crazy with word that Tito has started to get the classic "been hit in the head too much" shakes. I'm sure another fight with the executioner would help that out. Anyway, there's my ramblings, let me know what ya think.
